Bryce, you make several good points. These are tricky issues, especially palate fatigue. However, in this case virtually all of the beers would not be available to me until next year. I do remember working with Michael Jackson at the GABF and helping him get access to hard to find beers. Regardless, I'm up to my eyeballs with Randy Mosher's new book that has amazing information on taste.
Thanks for commenting, Bryce.

I've all but given up trying to study beers at festivals. The crowds, the smells, the distractions are all just too much not to mention rapid palate fatigue. The extent of note-taking that I do is to write down the beers that are worth seeking out later when I can really taste a full bottle or two.

Plus, they are going to have a bonfire if it's not too windy. How cool is that?!?

You should add the Michigan Winter Beer Festival, Saturday, Feb. 28th, in Grand Rapids, MI to your calendar if at all possible. If last year's festival was any indication, you will not find much subtlety in the big, dark beers here. They will kick your butt and you will love it.

I've been looking forward to this event for months! Over 35 Michigan breweries will be represented with around 200 beers, including two of my very favorites, Founders and Short's.
